His Steadfast Love Endures Forever

Everything was going as planned. Nancy and I had delayed our evening walk with Freckles due to the elevated temperature. Once a few shadows began to appear, we began the daily loop around our neighborhood. I started the practice several dogs ago as a means of personal stress relief at the end of the day. The tradition continues.
When we headed up one street, I noticed two mothers with small children walking toward us. To make sure Freckles did not bother the little girls, Nancy and I moved to the sidewalk to avoid a head on encounter. Freckles still tugged in their direction. She thinks everyone should pet her. About the time we met up with the mother and small children, a garage door opened, and a large dog rushed out. I swooped up Freckles, just in case the dog was more foe than friend. He turned out to be friendly.
However, by that time, I had stepped back with Freckles and tripped over a raised section of the sidewalk. I broke my fall with my left hand before landing squarely on my left hip in the edge of the street. I do not bounce as I once did in days gone by. Freckles managed to land on her feet and the owner of the dog retrieved it and apologized repeatedly.
That is when I heard a warning from the two women walking with the little girls.
“Here comes a car!”
Sure enough, a vehicle was headed our way. I had no time to moan and groan. I had to get out of the street. And I did. The apologies of the dog owner turned into inquiries about my well-being.
“Are you OK, brother Earl?”
I assured him that I was fine, as I sensed his awareness of my age. I did take an ibuprofen when I got home. I lived to fight another day.
Life occurs similarly. The predictably mundane turns into potential disaster in the twinkling of an eye. We cannot know what the future holds. However, we need not fear what the future holds, since the one who holds the future knows us and loves us with an everlasting love. Life continues to change. God forever remains faithful – and wonderful.

“Let those who fear the Lord say, ‘His steadfast love endures forever.’”
Psalm 118:4,

Earl
